- How well is a manufactured home built?
- A manufactured home is built to the Manufactured Home
Construction and Safety Standards (HUD Code). The HUD code Standards make
manufactured housing the only component of the housing industry that is subject
to a single national standard. Factory certification is regulated and each
manufactured home carries a HUD seal stating that it was built in compliance
with the Federal Code.
The manufactured homes of today are comparable to a site built home; offering the
consumer the same square footage, floor plans and quality building components but
at a much better value.
Manufactured homes are a better value due to the fact that they are constructed
in a controlled factory environment where waste is minimized, labor is consistent,
and inclement weather doesn't interfere with the construction process.
- Modular vs. HUD
- HUD or Modular? This is common terminology when shopping for a new home. In
a nut shell, there are two primary building codes for factory built homes, the
Federal HUD Code and the state regulated Modular Code.
There are three areas to consider when choosing which code is best for you:
-
First, consider what financing options are available for each type of construction.
Your retailer will be able to provide you with pertinent information on the latest
finance programs available.
- Second, consider any local rules and laws that may impact your decision.
- Third, consider the actual construction of the home. Construction applications
vary between the two codes.
Please contact your local retailer for specific construction information or visit ManufacturedHousing.Org for more information.
